In Memoriam: Giuseppe Izzo

It is with deep sorrow that the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Taipei announces the passing of our Co-founder and Vice President Giuseppe Izzo, after a long illness. He was our mentor and guiding light thanks to his wealth of experience, a treasure chest full of history and memories. Giuseppe, you will be dearly missed and never forgotten. Now you can rest, and we will keep up the good work in your memory, as you would have wanted of us to do. The bridges you built between your birthplace, Italy, and your eventual home, Taiwan, will link these two great nations and peoples for years to come.

In addition to his role as Co-founder of the ICCT, Giuseppe was Group Vice President, Asia Public Affairs and Taiwan Managing Director for STMicroelectronics for many years, as well as long-time member and the first chairman of the European Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan after it became a national entity, serving from 2013-2014, again from 2019-2020 and finally for a third time from 2023-2024. Giuseppe was active with the chamber and its efforts in the fields of technology and low-carbon initiatives.

As a builder of bridges between Italy and Taiwan, Giuseppe received many distinguished awards and recognition during his many years in Taiwan, from the Taiwan and Italian governments as well as from many of Taiwan’s partners. He was awarded the title of Chevalier dans l’Ordre National du Merit by the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron (in 2022). He was also awarded Commander of the Order of the Star of Italy by the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella (2020) and received the Friendship Medal of Diplomacy from Taiwan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Taiwan, Dr Joseph Wu, (2020) in recognition of his decades of contributions to strengthening Taiwan-Europe relations. A native of Campania region, Italy, Giuseppe also received ROC citizenship for special merits (2019).

Knowledgeable and passionate on many matters related to business, science and technology, culture, history, and humanity, many benefited every time he took a podium to deliver a speech on many topics. A beloved husband and father, he will be greatly missed, and is survived by his wife and two adult children.
